In October, all Second Form (Year 7) pupils learned about Black History Month as part of the junior Learning for Life programme.
Over 40 pupils entered a poster competition about one of the following people in Black British History: Lilian Bader, Lord Learie Constantine, Fanny Eaton, Mary Seacole, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Walter Tull.
Many pupils spent time over the half term break researching and creating their posters.
The competition was judged by Grecians (Year 13) Alfiena and Zoe from the African Caribbean Society.
The winning poster is a stunning painting of Mary Seacole by Chloe which is now displayed in West Block with many of the other entries. As part of her award, Chloe received a book on Black British History kindly donated by the History Department. In joint second place were Kamsi and Aleya. Runners Up were Atabong, Damacio, Sign, Angelyn and Emily.
Alfiena and Zoe were not only impressed by the quality of the entries, but also very moved by the thought and effort taken by the Second Form. Congratulations to all those who took part!
