This year’s Tony Ray-Jones Photography Competition winners were Noann (Second Form/Year 7, Junior), Charlie (UF/Year 10, Intermediate), Kai (Grecian/Year 13, Senior) and Max (Second Form/Year 7, Best in Show). Their images, depicting ‘A Sign Of The Times’ were the choice of guest judge, Anny Shaw, art journalist and Old Blue, and they reflected the truly multicultural demographic of Christ’s Hospital’s students; a traditional wooden clad Polish dwelling on the edge of a forest with a satellite dish, the knotted carcass of a crocodile on a Costa Rican coastline, humanity’s detritus on the bank of a Ghanian river and a group of people gathered in a dimly lit Japanese street.

Anny then gave a talk about her career and her journey from studying art at school, to studying art history at The Courtauld, working at a tabloid newspaper to travelling the world commenting on all the topical discussions in the art world. Afterwards Anny commented ‘It was such a lovely experience—I had forgotten how smart and direct the kids at CH are and how buzzing the Art School is’.
