St Matthew’s Day 2023

On Friday 22 September, our annual St Matthew’s Day celebration took place in the City of London, starting with a service at St Andrew’s Church, High Holborn. The CH Band and senior pupils then stopped the traffic to march through the streets to Guildhall, where the Lord Mayor greeted them and presented them each with largesse (a newly minted coin). This is always a proud occasion, and this year was no exception, with our students representing the school in splendid form.

St Matthew’s Day was the day on which, from at least 1557, the names of the governors of the royal hospitals of London (including CH) were given to the Lord Mayor for ceremonial approval.
