Christ’s Hospital student Josh (GE/Year 11) has received the exciting news that he has been selected for the Sussex County Cricket U16 squad.

Following his nomination by the school, Josh attended a first trial at Sussex’s Blackstone Academy ground at the start of September. He performed well in this trial and was subsequently invited to Sussex’s Indoor School at the 1st Central County Ground, Hove, to train with existing members of the U16 squad, where he impressed the coaches with his pace bowling in particular.

Head of Cricket at Christ’s Hospital, Dave Messenger, said ‘I am really pleased for Josh, he has worked hard at his cricket over the last few years at CH’, adding, ‘in the summer term I would regularly see Josh in the nets early in the morning before school! He fully deserves this selection.’

Josh has not only benefitted from practice sessions and matches for school, but also from the link between Christ’s Hospital and Horsham Cricket Club. He has been able to train and play regularly for Horsham and this added exposure to high calibre cricket has really helped to accelerate his progress. Josh said, ‘I am very excited about being given this opportunity’; he added, ‘It was a great experience netting with the U16 squad and the standard was very high; I really enjoyed the challenge and I am looking forward to being part of the squad’.
